 Anaesthetics

Anaesthetic agents can be classified into two groups:

·              General Anaesthetics—

o     Inhalational Agents: nitrous oxide, halothane, isoflu-rane, enflurane, sevoflurane, and desflurane.

o     Intravenous Agents*: thiopentone, methohexitone, thiamylal, diazepam, lorazepam, midazolam, etomi-date, ketamine, fentanyl and its derivatives, morphine, pethidine, butorphanol, and propofol.

·              Local Anaesthetics—Cocaine, lignocaine, bupivacaine, chloroprocaine, etidocaine, mepivacaine, prilocaine, procaine, ropivacaine, tetracaine, dibucaine, dyclonine, pramoxine, benzocaine, proparacaine, etc.
