Classification of Anticonvulsant (Anti-Epileptic) Drug

 ANTICONVULSANTS (ANTI-EPILEPTICS)

Anticonvulsants are drugs which fight convulsions (seizures) of both the epileptic and non-epileptic variety.

Classification

·              Hydantoins: phenytoin, mephenytoin, ethotoin

·              Barbiturates: phenobarbitone, mephobarbitone

·              Deoxybarbiturates: primidone

·              Iminostilbenes: carbamazepine

·              Succinimides: ethosuximide

·              Oxazolidinediones: trimethadione, paramethadione

·              Benzodiazepines: clonazepam, clorazepate, diazepam, lorazepam
